Why this site exists
Because printer companies discovered that the printer is not the product. The supplies are. Hardware gets sold cheap, and the money comes back over years in cartridges, plans and page allowances — and the one number that would let you see that coming, the cost per page, is almost never printed on anything you can read before you buy.
Tank & Toner publishes that number. For every printer we cover we look up the exact supply it takes, the manufacturer’s rated page yield for that supply, and its price on a named retailer, and we divide. Then we show you all four figures so you can check the arithmetic rather than trust it.
Who writes it
Ryder M. runs Tank & Toner for Magoo Media Group. He started it after getting tired of printers that cost more to feed than to buy. Every pick here is chosen by working out what it actually costs to run — the ink, the toner, the page yields — and showing that math on the page.
That is the whole biography, and it is deliberately short. There are no certifications to list, no years-in-the-industry claim, and no qualifications behind the recommendations beyond reading the specifications carefully and doing the arithmetic in public. Inventing credentials would be the easiest thing on this site to do and the easiest thing for anyone to catch.
What we do, and what we do not do
What we do
- Publish a cost per page for every printer we cover, with the supply name, its rated page yield, the price we used and the date we read it.
- Cite the primary reporting for every claim about what a manufacturer does with ink and firmware, and date it, because those policies change.
- Recommend the cheaper machine when it is the right answer, including when it pays us less.
- Say when we could not find something out. “We could not confirm this” appears on this site on purpose.
What we do not do
- Claim to have tested anything. No measured print samples, and no timings. Other publications do that properly and we will point you at them.
- Publish scores or star ratings. A rating without a test behind it is a number with nothing underneath it.
- Show live prices. We have no price feed, so every buy link sends you to the retailer’s own page for the current price. Any cost figure here is dated arithmetic, not a price.
- Publish testimonials or reviews of ourselves. We have no customers to quote. A site with no testimonials is better than a site with invented ones.
A note about the photographs
Every image on this site is licensed stock photography, and none of it shows a printer we own or handled. The photographs illustrate a kind of printer or a kind of room. Where a photograph appears on a page about a specific model, the caption says so explicitly. Sources for every file are recorded in the repository alongside the images.
How it is funded
Affiliate links, principally Amazon. If you buy through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. It does not affect the recommendations, and the reason you can check that claim rather than take it on faith is that our picks frequently point to the cheaper machine. Corrections
Prices move and printers get discontinued, so some of what is here will go out of date. If you find something wrong — a price that has changed materially, a model no longer sold, a yield we have misread — tell us at contact@tankandtoner.com. Corrections get a dated note on the page rather than a silent edit, because a site whose entire argument is transparency cannot quietly rewrite its own numbers.
